Golden Wish Granted – Les Returns to the Skies 🇬🇧✈️
This week, we had the absolute honour of granting a Golden Wish for Les, a much-loved resident at Magnolia House and a proud RAF veteran.
Les joined the Royal Air Force at just 18 years old, serving from 1953 to 1957. He was stationed at RAF Gütersloh in Germany, a strategically important airfield during the Cold War, positioned close to the East/West German border. Les has always had a deep passion for aviation—especially for the Red Arrows, the iconic RAF aerobatic display team.
So, when Armed Forces Day came to Cleethorpes, we knew it was the perfect opportunity to make his wish come true. Les, his daughter Sue, and a few close friends from Magnolia House spent the day surrounded by fellow veterans, current service members, parades, and—of course—the thrilling Red Arrows display.
It was a powerful and emotional experience. Les spent time sharing stories with other servicemen, many of whom had walked a similar path. Our Wellbeing Coordinators, Amy and Gabby, who accompanied the group, summed it up beautifully:
"I've had tears in my eyes so many times today seeing how happy he has been."
"It was such an emotional day, wasn’t it! I can’t put into words how amazing these Golden Wishes are and the joy they bring to the person receiving them."
Les’s wish reminded us all of the importance of honouring the memories, passions, and stories of those we care for. It was truly a day to remember.
